Frequently Asked Questions about the beacons and our service.
Q:
Are the beacons water proof?
A: Yes
Q:
Will these beacons be obsolete in Feb 2009?
A: No the current 121.5Mhz analogue will be turned off. These units are the new Digital 406Mhz
beacons
Q: The concern for me after
some discussion with project sites, is how would the system activate in the
event of an emergency and the person was unconscious (ie man down type alarm)?
A: Yes, that is the only area that is not covered. I believe man down alarm systems are available but they are not hooked up to the Cospas-Sarsat Global Rescue system that activates a co-ordinate rescue.
The user needs to be conscious long enough to turn the unit on, and unlike phones, radios etc the beacon is more likely to survive water contact, aircraft crash or a vehicle roll over (still one of the main cause of emergency injury).
Q:
How do we pay you?
A: We normally bill you
quarterly in advance. We are flexible with our payment plan
Q:
What happens over the course of the hire when new types of beacons come on the
market?
A: EPIRBhire will roll out new beacons to replace any inferior beacons hired as
soon as possible.
Q: At times we more
beacons for a few weeks, what do we do?
A: For a nominal cost EPIRBhire can extra supply units within 24 hours.
